GUCCI MANE vs SLAYER
2011: The Year In Rejects Part 3
STV SLV - Raining Bricks (Gucci Mane vs Slayer)

Gucci has cavorted with metal bands before during our Year In Rejects series. Maybe it’s that percussive flow, or more likely those percussive adlibs. Either way: percussion? This reimagined track might have found a home on the soundtrack for Judgment Night II: More Judgment, but instead it’s here.
FRIDAY 12/30: Our Saturday NYE show at Lincoln Hall is still sold out, but there are still tickets for the first night on Friday December 30. It’s been brought to our attention that some people think this show is sold out because the “BUY” button on Lincoln Hall’s website appears inactive, but that’s just a new feature on their site — ticket buyers need to tap on the “click here to acknowledge that tickets purchased here are non-transferable” agreement that appears below the show information. (And they have to MEAN IT, too.)

CHRIS DE BURGH vs BON IVER
2011: The Year In Rejects Part 1
ABX - Lady In Beth (Chris De Burgh vs Bon Iver)
Download: direct via Raptorhideout | Soundcloud
For the fifth year in row we are celebrating the holiday season by delivering lumps of musical coal in the form of tracks that were not good enough to make the cut this year. I’m sure Justin Vernon felt good about his 2011 with all the critical acclaim, Grammy nominations, and having the best guest spot on Watch The Throne. Hopefully mixing “Beth/Rest” with “Lady In Red” doesn’t do anything to take away from that.
NEW YEARS EVE EVE + REGULAR OLD NEW YEARS EVE: We are doing back to back nights in Chicago at Lincoln Hall to close out 2011. Tickets for the New Years Eve show with Willy Joy and My Gold Mask have sold out, but there are still tickets available for the night before that. Come spend the penultimate night of 2011, Friday, December 30th with us, Driftless Pony Club, and Team Bayside High. The show is 18+ and you can buy tickets here. Check out the poster for both shows by Aesthetic Apparatus.

JOHN BLU vs GONZALES
2010: The Year In Rejects Part 3
DJ STV SLV - Theme From Yo Booty (John Blu vs Gonzales)
Download: direct via Raptorhideout | Soundcloud
Hope you all had nice holiday time, whether recently or earlier this month or whenever the fuck you celebrate. Now let’s get back to our annual digital cutting room floor. The title alone on this one was questionable, as most permutations of “In Love With Yo Booty” and “Theme From In Between” resulted in a pause. Also questionable: the mix itself!
NEW YEARS EVE + NEW YEARS DAY: If we haven’t scared you off with this year’s installation of nonsense, don’t forget we have TWO shows this weekend. The first is on New Years Eve (Friday) at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis with Brother Ali. It’s a benefit for the music programs at Robbinsdale Cooper High School in MPLS. More details here. The weekend continues on Saturday in Chicago, where we’ll be at Lincoln Hall with Tobacco, Elite Gymnastics, and Sparkletone. (Discounted admission if you’re already attending Lincoln Hall’s NYE show with Flosstradamus.)

USHER vs TOKYO POLICE CLUB
2010: The Year In Rejects Part 2
DJ STV SLV - Frankenpapers (Usher vs Tokyo Police Club)
Download: direct via Raptorhideout | Soundcloud
This one was pretty close, but the keys between the two songs were different enough that Ursher’s vocals were pitched up maybe one step too far. Didn’t sound enough like this.

SUBLIME vs NICKI MINAJ
2010: The Year In Rejects Part 1
ABX - Your Santeria (Sublime vs Nicki Minaj)
Download: direct via Raptorhideout | Soundcloud
We continue our annual tradition of closing out the year with some of our tracks that didn’t make the cut throughout the past twelve months. We kick things off with some Bradley Nowell, a heavy dose of Auto-Tune, a Nicki Minaj beat that samples Annie Lennox, and a guitar solo borrowed from this guy on YouTube. Lots of awesome things, but maybe not so awesome together.

WEEZER vs GLASS CANDY
2008: The Year In Rejects Part 5 - Glass Candy Edition
ABX - Buddy Holly’s Imagination [direct] [drop.io]
WHY NOT: This track was posted on the Bootie Top 10 in November, so it’s not exactly a reject. This just seemed like a good time to post it.

HIEROGLYPHICS vs GENESIS
2008: The Year In Rejects Part 3
DJ STV SLV - That’s Who [direct] [drop.io]
This year for Christmas I got this mashup of two of my favorite groups. It’s as if I got a haphazardly-assembled hybrid of the Wii and the Xbox 360 that doesn’t work quite as well as either would on its own (if even at all), but the idea of it is kind of fun.

DJ ASSAULT vs DEERHUNTER
2008: The Year In Rejects Part 2
DJ STV SLV - Deer Assault [direct] [drop.io]
So: onward with this year’s batch of not-so-sure-about-this-one Hood tracks. This one finds Craig Diamond AKA The Street Narrator in cahoots with Bradford Cox and company.

BEYONCE vs FLEET FOXES
2008: The Year In Rejects Part 1
ABX - Single Foxes (Put A Wood On It) [direct] [drop.io]
We ended last year posting tracks that didn’t quite work for whatever reason. We’re back with some new ones to close out 2008. And if you’re wondering why these were rejected and that track with Ne-Yo wasn’t, I really have no good answer for you. So don’t ask.
The Beyonce and Fleet Foxes songs for this track were two favorites from the past year, but sounded like a mess when I was trying to put them together. I put in some extra work to clean it up for this post, and now I kind of like it.
